Personal Traits Test Reflection

We define traits to distinguish qualities or characteristics of a person. It is a readiness to think or act in a similar fashion in response to a variety of different stimuli or situations. People may differ as to their aspect of living and their personal intension in every privilege they encounter. In short, traits are continuous, degree and quantitative to people.
Personal traits are divided into four factors– physical, vital, mental and spiritual. The traits of awareness and insightfulness appears at the mental level; our various attitudes at the vital level; and our physical well being and strength at the physical level, it may be positive or negative response to environment or to socialization with other people, and it defines the inner and outer orientation of one’s self; psychologically and socially.
There are so many ways in order to develop your personal traits. Hidden knowledge may immerge that will arise your confidence and motivation to different skills you’re not interested with since then. The fundamental and spiritual capacities enable achievement, fulfillment, and personal growth, and also the negative capacities retard achievement and personal growth.
Personal traits have different components or fields that contain kinds of skills which is the key of economic development in a certain place, one is the entrepreneurial skills. We are convinced that the one who is the brain of the economy are the capitalists and entrepreneurs; the importers and exporters of different products from one place to another; the one who trades and indorses the beauty and quality of a product and view which may help to increase more tourists and investors that lead to an industrialized country.
We can say that we have entrepreneurial skill in our own ways but we may not know how poor we are in each aspect of this field. We can determine these personal traits by taking first a test that will let you know where to adjust and where to remain steady because there is a wide range of skills to be seen to become a certified entrepreneur.
I took this test required by our professor in order to know what and how capable we are in the field of entrepreneurship. I’ve got the score of 42 out of 60 items that resulted to ‘somewhat an entrepreneur’. I felt glad on that moment because I am in the average level to become an entrepreneur. As I remember my previous examination, the National Career Assessment Examination (NCAE), I’ve got poor score in my entrepreneurial skills, I felt sad to think that I cannot be an entrepreneur someday instead my exam evaluation is I am an artistic type and good in social field. Then, I ask myself, how could I use these skills to make money with poor entrepreneurial skill? I didn’t mind that thought because it could make my head ache. Until then, I was enrolled in this prestigious institution where I was able to help myself in financial problem. The test may contain the management skills that will define the ability to manage your time and people successfully; communication skills that will define your ability to sell your ideas and persuade others; the ability to work both as part of a team and independently; to be able to plan, coordinate and organize effectively; financial literacy that will identify what are you in keeping, balancing and spending money wisely; could be able to research markets, suppliers, customers and the managing the competition among other establishments and merchandises; by being a self-disciplined, adaptable to other opinions and willing to learn from mistakes and failure; to have an innovation to thinking and creativeness; can handle multi-tasking; responsible in making decisions; to work under pressure; having perseverance; competent; willing to take the risk which means who can still stand up even if you encounter failure; and can make networks or contacts that will invest and help the business to grow. These skills are useful to internal entrepreneurs and would also benefit all employees within a business and so are useful for graduates to have. As I’ve known, many of these skills, such as communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team, are already promoted within existing degrees. In addition to business related skills are, being able to draw up a business plan for a new venture, able to market and sell a new product or idea, financial skills, such as book-keeping and calculating tax, awareness of intellectual property and possibly patent law, will be of use to entrepreneurs.
Developing entrepreneurial skill is important to anyone who plans and preparing a business for a new or potential enterprise to remember that they should not just be looking at those skills which are needed right at this moment, but also those which will be required as the business starts to expand. As a rule of thumb, the smaller the business, the wider the range of skills that the owner-manager will need to operate the business, particularly in the early stages of its development. It is important therefore, to draw up a skills profile for the business identifying the diverse range of expertise required. You should have the knowledge and expertise of the goods or services which you plan to provide, and how the customers will make use of them. From the customer’s perspective, the supplier is the specialist who is expected to answer all of the awkward questions. To enable you to research your market, to design marketing plan to promote and distribute your goods or services. Many owner-managers set up in business in an area, with which they are already familiar, and so have some basic knowledge of their market, but there is still a need to maintain objectivity, particularly when estimating market share and sales volumes. We know that sales skills often assumed to be the same as marketing skills, but there is a distinct difference. You may have an excellent product, and a market ripe to take it, but you still need the skills to persuade your customers or your distributors that it is your product they should be using or retailing, rather than one supplied by a competitor. In the early stages of developing your business, you may not be able to afford to pay a full-time sales person and may have to do the job yourself. You must also have the ability to plan and organize yourself and your business, to ensure that your staff, resources, materials, finished goods, etc., are in the right place at the right time. Careful planning and attention to detail enables you to make the most productive use of time and resources, and to avoid costly waste. In decision making, have the facility to analyze problems, identify and evaluate options, and to make objective and rational decisions, including how they will be made to work effectively. Moreover, financial skills is keeping a day-to-day accounts is not necessarily the best to use of the owner-manager’s time, as a part-time bookkeeper or accountant would probably be much more cost effective. However, it is still important for the owner to be able to understand the accounting procedures. In particular, it is essential to have a basic understanding of budgetary planning and control, in order to keep the business on-track, and to spot any potential problems. There may also be a need for the owner to be involved in credit control and debt collection. On the other hand, a customer service skill is not just the case of keeping the customers satisfied by providing a consistently high standard of service. For small firms one of the biggest headaches in dealing with customers is debt collection, and persuading your customers to pay their bills on time without the risk of offending them or losing their business. In your employee’s side, I think it’s better to supervise, delegate work, train and motivate staff to get the best out of them. The importance of this is often underestimated, and for new owner-managers who have never previously been involved with managing staff. One of the hardest aspects is that of delegation – trusting the staff to get on with their own jobs without constant close scrutiny, so that the owner can get on with the job of running the business. All of these are helpful to have a successful business by being this kind of character. (download-it.org)
According to Elizabeth Miranda, one definition of the term ‘entrepreneurial skills’ comes from Steve Jobs, the US computer engineer and industrialist who is noted as saying, “I am convinced that about half of what separates the successful entrepreneurs from non-successful ones is pure perseverance”. Through this thought, it’s like a lighting that passes in my mind which opened my eyes wider to have more motivation and hard work in this course that I am taking right now - specifically, the Technopreneurship that molds us to be competent in many ways of planning a business, being a good entrepreneur, showing us the techno ventures – the Human resources who are the research thinker, idea generator, innovator, developer-implementer, technical people, scanner and marketing people and the financer; the Environment which are the science parks, incubation centers, academic institutions, R&D centers, having internet access, communication and other support services, geographic accessibility, and the venture mentoring services; the Laws and policies which are the Intellectual Property Rights Office , Technology Licensing Office that facilitates commercialization of inventions, and legal services; and the Financial resources who are the venture capitalists and investors, business sector, funding agencies, and the financial services; which quoted as ‘HELF’ that really helps us to learn more with this ecosystem. It revealed some basic facts that business start from ideas, but ideas alone do not make a business; customers do not buy ideas, they buy products and services which is definitely right; customers pay the price, value is what they get; and a marketable product may not result a viable business. Work now is no limit of age, even the months old baby already earn money! We can see this basis in advertisements and shows, right? So, we can conclude that anyone has the capacity in a business, in any ways, in any styles, etc. our physical may help, the passion, ideas, motivation and perseverance is typically the puzzle parts to form an object that may lead you to success and be glad to face the crowd, yell to everyone, and shout out your name to the world that you’re not just good, but great.
The implication of using this personal traits test approach is you can get to have an understanding of what sort of personality underpins a certain type of behavior, as well as the more general workings of personality. It really determines of whom you are and what are you within a business just what like I’ve realized after I took it. It reminds you yourself each of the items that contains the options of what are you. You will know yourself better than what you already know before this. Once you get either of these results by scores – (1-25) less entrepreneur; (26-45) somewhat an entrepreneur; (46-above) or very entrepreneur. When you got the lowest score, it’s time for you to learn most of the characteristics above which I mentioned earlier, if you get the average score, well, you should still learn more characteristics being a good entrepreneur, lastly, if you will get the excellent score, good for you because you have the knowledge and skill to be an entrepreneur, the thing you will do is to keep it and enhance it more. However, cheating is not allowed in this test, if so, you are also cheating yourself. This is a test to yourself capacity, this is not time for academic tolerance. Just enjoy answering and don’t fool and lie to yourself, if you know yourself better, it will be easy for you to develop what are the dos and don’ts. Be motivated, be wise and open minded to all aspects you encounter, to become a great entrepreneur.

Would you take the same career path that Steve Jobs took? Why or Why Not?

Dreaming is free. But doing to fulfill it is being an extravagant to the brain and body. Imagine you have to spend a lot of time, energy, etc. to learn all you have to learn within the career you choose, but there’s no problem about it, the important is you love it, otherwise, handle it. Dreaming far from the demands of economy can also make you far from being wealthy.
Over the past forty years, the computer industry has taken fantastic leaps and bounds to where it is today. One of the most influential people during this time was Steve Jobs. Not only was Jobs an integral part of the rise in personal computing, but he was an excellent motivator for those working under him and those inspiring to be like him. Job’s introduction to computers was through a summer job at Hewlett-Packard in Palo Alto, California. Here, Jobs met Steve Wozniak, an electronics guru. Although both Jobs and Wozniak were both extremely talented, they dropped out of their respected colleges soon after meeting. [Halliday, 1983, p. 205]
Career planning is a lifelong process, which includes choosing an occupation, getting a job, growing in our job, possibly changing careers, and eventually retiring. Yet every individual will focus on career choice and the process one goes through in selecting an occupation. This may happen once in our lifetimes, but it is more likely to happen several times as we first define and then redefine ourselves and our goals. I mean, Steve Jobs? Truly his jobs adequately fit to his lifelong, challenging yet successful closure of his endurance.
Today, and more than ever, most people are responsible for building their own careers. Yes, they did. Actually, as I travel along my journey, of course as a student there are lots of things I’ve encountered and needed to face to reach my chosen career in the future.
As I refresh and illuminate my fertile young mind along in this computer keyboard and monitor, meditating which and what part in my life would be useful in choosing my career; there’s a lot things I’ve done that should be learned and acquired to, even a bunch of lists and a 24 hr. day writing and typing can’t do either.
Furthermore, in generalization of those long-lists of ideas and experiences, I’ve top these things into nine most important career planning experiences should be keep in mind.
First stop; never stop learning. Life-long learning is your keyword. The world is constantly changing, and everybody is looking for new ways of doing business. If you have decided that your current skills are good enough, you have also decided that your current job is good enough. But if you want a career in the future, you should add regular updates to your skills and knowledge. Well, if you stop on grade one you wouldn’t get huge companies as Steve Jobs do.
Second stop; ask, listen and learn. A good listener can learn a lot. Listen to your co-workers, your boss, and your superiors. You can learn a lot from their experience. Ask about issues that interest you, and listen to what they say. Let them tell you about how things work, and what you could have done better. Most people will love to be your free tutor. And facts would not come on you if you don’t actually seek them.
Third on the list; fulfill your current job. Your current job might be best place to start your career. It is often very little that separates successful people from the average. But nothing comes free. If you do your job well and fulfill your responsibilities, this is often the best way to start a new career. Talk to your friends about things you can do. Suggest improvements. Offer your help when help is needed. In return ask for help to build a better career. It is often possible - right inside your own organization especially if you have proved to be a valued employee. Always remember; you can’t fulfill others career unless you thoroughly manage your own.
Fourth; build your network. My next career step might arise from my contact network. Did you know that more than 50% of all jobs are obtained from contact networks? If you have a good contact network, it is also a good place to discover future careers, to explore new trends, and to learn about new opportunities. Spend some time building new contacts, and don't forget to maintain the ones you already have. One of the best ways to get serious information from your network is to regularly ask your contacts how they are, what they do, and what is new about their careers. You can’t stand a business unless many people know your product is the best.
Fifth; identify my current job. Your current job should be identified, not assumed. Make sure you don't work with tasks you assume are important. This is waste of time and talent. When you start in a new job, talk to your superior about your priorities. If you're not sure about what is most important, then ask him. And ask him again. Often you will be surprised about the differences between what you assume, and what is really important. Note: you can’t serve two masters at once!
Sixth; identify my next job. Your dream job must be identified. Before you start planning your future career, be sure you have identified your dream job. In your dream job, you will be doing all the things you enjoy, and none of the things you don't enjoy. What kind of job would that be? Do you like or dislike having responsibility for other employees. Do you like to work with technology or with people? Do you want to run your own business? Do you want to be an artist, a designer or a skilled engineer? A manager? Before building your future career your goal must be identified. Perhaps you’re like walking in a path for no reason not knowing where to go.
Seventh; prepare yourself. Your dream might show up tomorrow. Be prepared. Don't wait a second. Update your knowledge now, and continue to update it regularly. Tomorrow your dream job may show up right before your nose. Prepare for it with a professional knowledge and be ready to describe yourself as a valuable object to anyone that will try to recruit you. If you don't know how to write planners, or how to describe yourself, start learning it now. For the fact that you can’t even guess you’ll be a millionaire tomorrow!
Eight on the list; pick the right tools. Pick the tools you can handle. You can build your future career using a lot of different tools. Studying at top-school is easy. Taking a full master degree is more complicated. You can add a lot to your career by studying books and tutorials. Doing short time courses with certification tests might add valuable weight to your knowledge. And don't forget: Your current job is often the most valuable source of building new skills. Don't pick a tool that is too heavy for you to handle!
Last on deck; realize my dreams. Put your dreams into action. Don't let a busy job kill your dreams. If you have higher goals, put them into action now. If you have plans about taking more education, getting a better job, starting your own company or something else, you should not use your daily job as a "waiting station". Your daily job will get more and more busy, you will be caught up in the rat race, and you will burn up your energy. If you have this energy, you should use it now, to realize your dreams. Remember an apple won’t fall directly to your mouth unless you seize and bite it, you can eat it as a whole, but you’re throat would tremble either. Dreams are chewed slowly to have better digestion.
Obviously, I am taking Bachelor of Science in Information Technology at the University of Southeastern Philippines. Do you think there’s anything more occupational to take than what like Steve Jobs did? Of course, a big YES would satisfy this unending career choosing.

How do you see yourself as a Technopreneur

Owning a business requires a lot. There are more requirements to starting and maintaining a business today. An entrepreneur is a person who organizes and manages a business undertaking and partaking a risk for the sake of profit. They also show improvement on a daily basis in how they serve customers, manage employees, and try hard to improve their operations. In other words, they should utilize the four crucial functions in management.
The first step is planning. Starting a business doesn’t happen overnight. Bill Gates, on the other hand, is a different story. He made it big overnight in 1979, when he created “Windows”, an interactive desktop interface. But entrepreneurs aren’t as fortunate as Bill Gates, so business owners has to plan. The first decision, an entrepreneur must make is what type of business he or she wants to start. The decision should be based on the amount of knowledge and skill that they have in the field that they are considering.
Current economic research denies the innate characteristics of the entrepreneur. Rather than attributing economic growth and innovation to personality traits, economists would rather advocate a form of economic determinism: if an aggressive personality dominated an industry, economists try to explain the characteristics of the industry that made aggression a successful strategy. Economic models are contrived to remove the personality from the entrepreneur, to make all entrepreneurial decisions predestined, given enough time. However, to deny Bill Gates’ or Steve Jobs’ role in economic history is equivalent to denying Hitler’s role in creating a Nazi Germany or Castro’s role in creating a Communist Cuba. Claiming that history or economics is deterministic is silly. Entrepreneurs are people who make decisions; their decisions need not fall out of dry economic models, just as no literary model could predict the words of Shakespeare and no historical model could predict the future. However, we must be systematic in our approach to identifying entrepreneurial characteristics and not fatuously assert that entrepreneurs drive economic change. Instead, we must link specific entrepreneurial tasks to specific entrepreneurial traits with the goal of understanding how these traits crucially affect the evolution of a business from a startup to Fortune 500 Company.
Statistics shows that the lowest averages of demand jobs are computer related occupations that typically requires at least bachelor’s degree as of 2004-2014. This means that there are only few that are interested in computer concern which is very opportunity to us IT students to have much motivation with our field. We should train ourselves to be an artist in our own ways that would make us ready to pass in a needle hole-a way to success. If I can pass through, good start of a new beginning of another challenge, otherwise, I need more discipline to myself and do it again until I’ll get it. What I mean is the PhilNITS (Philippine National Information Technology Standard) Examination; it’s like a board exam for IT people who strive long years of learning to operate computers and become developers of the systems and the webs with different languages used in programming, web making, many ways in networking and more, minor courses also molded us to be more aware to other things, although it is not our focus but really been made us to be, even if we don’t want to. I’m sure this would be a big help on the process through success and being an employer, not a job seeker. Working abroad is not the answer to uplift your career. It is the place where you are molded, and then it is also the place where you will vein your career. On my own thinking, I would probably loan to a bank that would sustain my knowledge to create an agency that renders computer related services to huge companies. Then later, as my business is on its way to grow, I will now hire intelligence persons to help me out and reach excellence in this business. I will look for a good attitude in working, the passion for this job, on how he/she handles everything when he/she will be my employee. Training would be effective for me to observe such applicants to see their great interest of the job they want to work with, a determination to learn more aside of their experiences and knowledge. As we go through, if God let me, I will build other branches to access other large companies that need our services, of course, another opportunity also to people who are jobless in this field. Then, later and later, our economy will climb up, community develops, and country will now be a phenomenon, to Asia, to all continents, or the whole world! Imagine, first, I help myself, then the people who are in need, then the economy, the community, then the country, later the world. This might be a history, and can be an inspiration to everyone.
Well, if I’m dreaming? I’d rather not woke up; this is the best dream I’ve ever had on my entire life. Dreaming of being an entrepreneur was never my in plan since when I was kid. Now, I’ve realized that things are just there, if you just have the passion on it then you can get it. Learning to love what you have is like keeping a mule, first it’s just a nothing, but as time passes by, demands are on it, its value became huge that you never thought it was, because we admit it or not, people used to find something that doesn’t existing with them anymore, although they have it before. Now we’re woke up, let’s make ourselves think that we are learning to help others someday, not the one who is begging for a help, or the one who is hoping for a future to drop by on his front. To sum up, let’s work on and think to be an employer someday, the one who is destined to change the community, which is now one of the poorest country in this century. Let’s make our image change, start it with yourself before other matters, it will just follow you. Being this kind of dream of mine is very impossible, with my grades almost make me down, with this institution that would probably make me crazy, I will not stop dreaming, I can do this, and we can do these IT students, they need us. “The world needs IT”.

Factors that contributed to Success and Failure of Steve Jobs as a Technopreneur

Succeeding is the measure of what we can be versus what we are, and what we are as opposed as to what we would like to become. Success doesn't come whenever we become what others expect from us, even if it means achieving possessions and positions envied by others. You don't succeed by becoming what others want you to become; they might, as manipulators, but not certainly you. So if you want to succeed, the first success that you have to achieve is to be candid with yourself in order to know if what you think that you want is really what you want, and separate your inner convictions from outside suggestions or impositions which may have been well-intended or not, but certainly are not yours. On the other hand, failure is not to remain far away from your goals, but to cease trying to reach them. We need to remember that we are humans whenever we succeed and whenever we fail.
You live as what you are living, but as you go through life time change you; motivating or discouraging incidents happen just like what the movie I’ve watched “Pirates of the Silicon Valley” wherein Steve Jobs just start as being him, just simple, but then discovered something interesting that maybe made him obsessed to achieve what he thought but was never his plan before it happened. “Information is Power”, that’s what he said when his friend built the blue box that makes a free long distance call anywhere in the world.
His motivation about computers that time was not yet born; it was all started by his friend Woz who showed much more interest to computers. He was just determined to earn money. When his frustrated or angry, then he did anything or go to some place that would make him feel free just to be happy. He feeds and feeds his self of happiness, then later back to normal mood. When the first computer they ever built was showed at Homebrew Computer Club, they sold 50$ then later and later they got bigger money sold by that computer, that motivated him to defeat IBM. The first trouble was that Woz was working with HP and he promised his father to give the first chance anything that he invent, but he did make a way to make them hate it. The next is Steve wants to get a loan to the bank but he doesn’t look like a businessman, so he keep on making ways just to get a loan from the bank to sustain their invention. Then they called themselves Apple making little computers in Steve’s garage, until someone came, Mike Markula the intelligence person of Intel who funded Apple Computers about quarter million dollars.
Through a Computer fair happened in San Francisco, Apple was later a huge Company, and Steve Jobs?? He really looks differently compared before with forehead straight walking behind him were the people of Apple. He is now a huge person, a big change was happened to him, boastful, demanding, and any other negative attitudes was seen into him, he doesn’t care about the feelings of anyone, he wants to uplift Apple and undeniably also his self. He doesn’t want people that he feels that could ruin Apple or could trait him, he wanted to secure honesty and loyalty to him, he chose people, “you got to be careful which door you open” he was wise, but not too much. He doesn’t listen of what other people say, the advices of his friend made him like deaf, he is selfish, he only thinks of his self, he is self-centered, but, there was a little twist on him, when his first daughter born, he was so frustrated to name her any kind of weird name by his girlfriend so he called her Lisa. It was also the name of the first big new project of Apple. Steve was so happy even if he denied the baby that she is his, people wondered why he insisted that name to the new computer.
On the way, he want more, and he believe that “good artists copy, great artists steal”, so he want more stuff to make his computer great. He wanted to steal Xerox, who makes the mouse, graphics on the screen and any other stuff that the California engineers made. He persuaded Xerox brass to present to them what they made to take some information about the graphics interface, and they did really take it that leads to another big money for them. However, here is Bill Gates, offering him to work with Apple, with beautiful words that Bill gates spoke onto Steve; he gave the three prototypes of the Macintosh which was slowly kills him down. He had tear off the Apple into pieces, Apple II people separated against Macintosh team. Another problem came, Time Magazine make a story about Arlene, his girlfriend and the baby, it says she’s asking for $20,000, Mark said that just give what she want because he can afford it but he resisted.
Later, he discovered that Bill is stealing from Apple by creating Windows to compete with them. Moreover, Bill is the wisest person I’ve ever know, he convinced Steve that Windows is just nothing, that it doesn’t have a threat to Apple. But then, when the video Steve shown to the Apple people that contain their engineers unpacking the Japanese Computers with first copies of Windows Bill created which mostly looks like Macintosh, all things was miserable to Steve, it really ruined his huge carrier. That time he realized what he had done, he trusted, believed but then made him fooled. He and Steve argued and all the hurt feelings were out at that time, but Steve insisted that Apple is better than Microsoft, but Bill only said “that doesn’t matter”. When Steve’s 30th birthday party came, that was the worst gift he had ever had his entire life I think. Three months later, the president of Apple Computers Inc. John Scully fired Steve Jobs.
After all these things, all he needs is just a family, the thing that couldn’t be paid any happiness.
“Sometimes, you find things that are more important to you than the things you think are important…maybe just its getting older”. You do anything to please everyone, to lift your life status, but doing it without staying your feet on the ground is much worse than being just a beggar. The cause of success is the one which made you down but still motivate you to stand up and continue. Life has full of failures, but in order to fight it is to deal it without fear to face another of it, you can’t get the meaning of winning unless you tear off thinking you’re losing, that’s the key to success.
